As an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealander, you are also allowed to sponsor your parents to live in Australia permanently.  You can also sponsor your child or children to live in Australia permanently. The visa subclass to apply for depends on whether they are in Australia or outside of Australia.

Parent Visa Categories

If you are in Australia, you may apply for the following visas :

• Parent visa (subclass 103) – This visa allows parents of a settled Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen to live in Australia permanently.

• Aged Parent visa (subclass 804) – This visa allows parents of a settled Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen to live in Australia permanently. You must be at the age where you are eligible for an Age Pension in Australia, which generally means you have to be older than 65 years old. The waiting time is up to 30 years.

• Contributory Aged Parent (Temporary) visa (subclass 884) – This visa allows parents of a settled Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen to live in Australia temporarily. You must be at the age where you are eligible for an Age Pension in Australia, which generally means you have to be older than 65 years old.  If you are granted this visa and want to stay in Australia permanently, you can then apply for a Contributory Aged Parent visa (subclass 864).

• Contributory Aged Parent visa (subclass 864) – This visa allows parents of a settled Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen to live in Australia permanently. You must be at the age where you are eligible for an Age Pension in Australia, which generally means you have to be older than 65 years old.

If you are outside of Australia (you can also apply for the following visas if you are in Australia):

• Contributory Parent (Temporary) visa (subclass 173) – This visa allows parents of a settled Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen to live in Australia temporarily. If you are granted this visa and want to stay in Australia permanently, you can then apply for a Contributory Parent visa (subclass 143).

• Contributory Parent visa (subclass 143) – This visa allows parents of a settled Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen to live in Australia permanently.

Child Visa Categories

• Child Visa (subclass 101) – This visa allows a child who is outside of Australia to come to Australia to live with their parents.

• Child Visa (subclass 802) – This visa allows a child who is in Australia to stay in Australia with their parents.
